› The Incomplete Greatness of Barack Obama
He’s gotten more done in three years than any president in decades. Too bad the American public still thinks he hasn’t accomplished anything.
I think that everyone needs a theme song and that everyone should be given free rolls of toilet paper when they get their taxes back.

› FLASHBACK: Fox News On Gas Prices In 2008
Following GOP strategy, Fox News is again blaming the Obama administration for rising gasoline prices — a claim that has been repeatedly debunked by energy analysts. But back in the summer of 2008, when the average U.S. gasoline price hit a record high of $4.11, Fox said that “no President has the power to increase or to lower gas prices.”
President Obama talks women’s sports with ESPN
What’s great is that women’s athletics, girls’ athletics, I think makes all the difference in the world. I’m 50 now, so I went to high school in the ’70s. We actually went to — I went to a school that had a strong women’s sports team. But it was still not the norm for a lot of girls to participate in a lot of sports teams, and now it’s just second nature. And they’re healthier for it. They learn competition. They learn how to bounce back from adversity. It’s just — it’s a terrific thing to see.

As Barack Obama contends for a second term in office, two conflicting narratives of his presidency have emerged. Is he a skillful political player and policy visionary—a chess master who always sees several moves ahead of his opponents (and of the punditocracy)? Or is he politically clumsy and out of his depth—a pawn overwhelmed by events, at the mercy of a second-rate staff and of the Republicans? Here, a longtime analyst of the presidency takes the measure of our 44th president, with a view to history.
We have a huge opportunity, at this moment, to bring manufacturing back. But we have to seize it. Tonight, my message to business leaders is simple: Ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country and your country will do everything we can to help you succeed.
President Barack Obama, State of the Union Address 24 January 2012 (via wellplaid)
thebaddestbaybeintheatmosphere:
President Obama, yelling at Presidential Candidates after they do nothing to stop the booing of gay soldiers.
This gave me chills. Obama without a doubt, will, once again, have my vote. He actually cares about his people. Unlike the other candidates who, may I add, looked like they were trying not to fucking laugh. TRYING NOT TO FUCKING LAUGH! They were fucking SMIRKING! They found it to be fucking amusing. They fucking sicken me. Those soldiers are risking THEIR lives for the country that YOU want to run. Are you kidding me? If you can’t give the people of the country that you want to be the president of a simple human right to be who they are, then you do not deserve to be in that position. You do not even deserve to be a political leader of any sort.
that’s my motherfucking man.
always reblog…

› Portland bike companies poised for Obama's "insourcing" initiative
Obama, with Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and CEO of locally based Keen Footwear by his side, talked up “insourcing” (as opposed to outsourcing, get it?) and laid out several measures to help make it happen. The new initiative seems tailor-made to give a much-needed bump to Portland’s flourishing bike industry. Large companies like Keen and Intel (with their large presence in Hillsboro) offer exciting potential to put Oregonians back to work — but I wonder if Kitzhaber knows about Chris King Precision Components, Showers Pass, Zen Bicycle Manufacturing, Portland Design Works, Black Star Bags, Ruckus Components, Metrofiets, Sugar Wheel Works, Vanilla Cycles, Wabi Woolens, and the myriad other bike-related businesses that call Portland home.
